Will the CM 612 springs work good with my cam?
Someone I know bought some new and hasn't installed them and I'm getting valve float with my current springs so I was wondering if cm 612 springs would work good with my cam? Does anyone know the seat pressure and open pressure, I did a search and couldn't find it. I will rev to ~6700 RPM's max since I know that makes a difference

should be fine, ignore the above, do a search for post by me, i just ask about those springs with my 230/236 and everyone said they are more than enough.

I will strongly suggest you contact the manufactuer of the cam you have, to see what they suggest,many of the members here can and will give you info based on their experience.personally i like to use the 987s for most everything i do!

The CC306 while larger than the XE230/236 is NOT nearly as radical as far as lobe design goes. The ramps on the XE are very aggressive which means you need A LOT of pressure to keep the lifter on the lobe and those 612s just wont cut it for that cam. Now for your cam they will probably be just fine.

"I'd go with comp 918s. Lift isn't necessarily just what causes float. I cam with .550 lift can float valves while a cam with .600 lift won't, you also have to take into account the ramp rates of the cams. With that being said the 918s should work great, they were designed to work with ls1 cams, that majority of which have more aggressive ramps than lt1 cams."
He is absolutely 100% correctly.
"I'd go with comp 918s. Lift isn't necessarily just what causes float. I cam with .550 lift can float valves while a cam with .600 lift won't, you also have to take into account the ramp rates of the cams. With that being said the 918s should work great, they were designed to work with ls1 cams, that majority of which have more aggressive ramps than lt1 cams."

hmm...i have the cm springs maybe thats why my car doesn't seem to pull to 6200 very well...it doesn't seem to fall on its face like valve float though.

the thing is those are the spring combo. motorsports included with my XE224/236 cam. so i thought they would be good for the 230/236. but i'm reading alot of post of that cam having valve float issues. so i was thinking of adding a rev kit, rev kits are a much better answer than going with larger springs, your adding so much pressure on the rocker, stud, and pushrod, when you can split it up over the lifter and even out some pressure on each side of the vavle train. which is definitely the answer for aggressive ramps.
but i was really hoping for some people not talking about what they heard but instead someone with that cam and those springs, who tried going to a larger spring or added a rev kit. did it help or not?
on a side note, where can i find more info on the 918's, do you have to enlarge the seat or is any machining required? how much do they run??
