Will aftermarket oil pressure gauge work?

I have a 94 Impala LT1 in my 68 Camaro and I want to get some meaningul gauges hooked up so I have a clue if anything is going wrong. Can I use the stock oil pressure sending unit with an aftermarket electric oil pressure gauge? Same question for the water temp? It would just make things easier and cleaner. Thanks.

Just use whatever sendor comes with the aftermaket guages. That way you know the calibration is right.

Both are a 1 wire hookup no matter if aftermarket or OEM. Oil in the back of manifold. Temp sender on the left side head (drivers).

Unless there is some info with the new gauge, there is no way to know if the factory sensor would be compatible with it's calibration.

OK, next question. The oil pressure sending unit is connected to a wire harness. Does the stock 93 computer use the information the sending unit is giving or is it strictly for the gauge? If it's just for the gauge then I can stick an aftermarket unit in its place. Thanks again.

Check my sig. I am a transplanter! The stock is not used by computer. I believe the stock unit on your year has a pressure and a no pressure light built in. I used a VDO setup with both built in if you want to maintain the light in your dash.

I wasn't planning on keeping the dummy light. I just want to hook something up so I can monitor the engine to make sure something isn't going wrong. Thanks.
