Will 1.7RRs drop my mpg?
Will 1.7RRs drop my mpg?
Im currently getting about 230 to a tank, and thats about as low as I want it to go untill I buy another vehicle. But of course, I want more power out of my NA car.
So just curious if anyone has experinced MPG loss with 1.7 or even 1.6 roller rockers

Re: Will 1.7RRs drop my mpg?
230 per tank? Sounds like something is wrong. I get 260+ to a tank right now and im running open headers without o2 sensors cc306 cam and ported heads....
I doubt that 1.7 will drop gas mileage....
Im actually thinking about going 1.6 on my exhaust and 1.7 on my intake. If you want to, we could split that set of 1.7.....

Re: Will 1.7RRs drop my mpg?
I'd be down if i knew 1.7/1.6 combo made more HP, but im not sure if it would, it probably varies car to car.
As for my mpg, im not sure, auto with 3.73s i thought that was fairly normal.

Re: Will 1.7RRs drop my mpg?
230 with those gears in an auto is actually pretty good. Personally, im only getting like 210 with 3.23's, but I have something wrong. But lots of people ive seen are getting around that with just 3.23's, so I think you are ahead of the curve.
Re: Will 1.7RRs drop my mpg?
I wish I was getting 230 a tank. After the cam (227) engine work and 3.73's in my A4 I get 200-220 town/ highway/ 180 town. Maybe it'll change, if I ever get a comp. tune?

actually they wont be open any longer(duration stays the same), but they will open further.....
Re: Will 1.7RRs drop my mpg?
The valves won't be open longer, but the overlap area will be larger. The 1.7 RR's will make the slope of the ramps steeper, so the area where both valves are open will be greater. This will cause more scavenging, which can be good for power, but has negative effects on gas milage. I doubt it would be enough to be very noticable. Now, changing duration without changing the LSA (lobe seperation angle)is where you start to loose significant gas milage.
