Widest tires on stock Rims
Widest tires on stock Rims
Looking for the widest size tires that can be mounted on the 1996 stock rims. I have the chrome salad shooters and really want to keep them but want to go bigger than the stock tires (245 60 16). I've heard the biggest I could go is 255's. Is that true?
Re: Widest tires on stock Rims
You can go with 255's but they are not much wider then 245's. You get 10mm more foot print and the tire is 26.1 in tall vs. 25.7. Unless you found the 255's cheaper then the 245's I wouldn't bother. It's the same way with 275/40/17 and 285/40/17 tires. GM did this to have different sizes between the Corvette and the f-bodys.

Re: Widest tires on stock Rims
When I bought my '93, the original owner had BF goodrich 275's on the back. My Formula had the stock "swirl" wheels at the time (16x8). I drove with those tires for 3 years with no problems at all until I upgraded to ET streets. Don't know if BF goodrich still makes that size though...
