Why won't my car hold first gear?

If I drop it down into first and try to powershift it and kick it down it will go to 4k rpm and then shift into second by itself. Would it do the same thing if I put it in drive?

Did you cut out the restrictor block?? If so, make sure you have it all the way in first gear. It'll hold for like 2-3 bounces off the rev limiter then, being an electronic auto not wanting to tear itself up, will upshift to 2nd. but not at 4k. You may still have it in 2. Just a thought.

no I didn't know they had a restrictor block. It coulda been still in 2nd because it didn't spin the tires much but I figured it was were it just reved to 4k. Last night I tried it in Drive and it revved almost to 6k before it shifted. Also spun the tires lot longer. That makes me feel better knowing they're made like this and my tranny ain't messing up.
