I have not looked much in depth to what makes a LS1 ignition tick, but out of everything ive ever read you cant adapt it to an LT1. My question is why spacifically you can't...

To run the exact LS-1 ignition, I believe you would have to have some sort of stand alone computer for the ignition. Personally, I believe it has something to do with the way the computers read timing. LT-1 using the opti for a signal, and LS-1 using ths crank sensor if I'm not mistaken. But it makes you wonder, people delete the CPS sensor on LT-1 cars all day long. I would think that if you had the proper wiring harness and a good tuner, you may be able to to get a timing refrence from the CPS sensor. Thus allowing you to use the LS-1 ignition on a LT-1. In the end, I think it is just to expensive for the average joe to mess with.

 

THe two systems are diffent in many aspects, it is kind of like comparing apples and oranges. They are both fruits but are different. In the case of the LT1 the ignition has one coil for all 8 cylinders while the LS1 has a sperate coil for each cyliner. And as stated before the computer mangement for the two system differ greatly. Can a LS1 system be made to work on a LT1, yes, but the cost, time, "jerryrigging", etc can be quite a bit. Hope this helps.

 

I'm not worried about costs or if the conversion would be cost effective.

I am not looking for an opti alternative; I know there are many products out there like those you mentioned. I am discussing the Ls1 Ign in specific in this thread.

Many people have to me,
But I’ve yet to see anything specifically say why you can’t or if you can what you have to do to make it work...

From what little I know, I'm confident it is hard coded in the pcm. Got a hex editor, AND preferably, a GM pcm engineer as a tour guide?

Actually, cuz several were involved in the pcm software 'construction', you'd need the one(s) connected with the ignition code input.

Edit: This does not take into account, the possibility, of some physical component differences between pcms.
