Why are my Wipers sitting straight up when off?

When we had some nasty rain comming down I turned my wipers on full blast. by the time I got to my destination and turned my wipers off, they made one last swipe and stopped directly in the middle of my winshieled. WTF??? Is the wiper motor bad? Did the linkage get twisted up? I took a look in there and I couldn't see anything binding. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks for the info Ya'll

I had my motor go bad after 5,000 miles. Dealer replaced it. When it went bad, they stopped around 45 degrees higher than normal off position. When I would turn them on after that, I saw them twitch very slightly, maybe like the bearings in the motor were bound up. I dunno exactly. Might be what you are experiencing with yours. Hope that helps, at least ya know that's what it might be. I would remove the motor and plug it into a 12 source to see if it rotates smoothly as it should.

Maybe you could use this to your advantage. You could design a kit that automatically stops the blades straight up cars that have 'R-type' stickers on them. Then, just drive around town for a while with your blades up. put a domain name to your website on your windshield where you can sell the kit, and before you know it, every honda civic will be driving around with thier blades straight up too. Adds 10hp by filtering the air straight up and over the windshield. Just be sure to remember me when you become a millionaire. hehehe.

When my drivers side wiper went I figured it was the motor.. but i wasnt as it turned out at the base of the wiper there is a nut that holds the wiper blade to the motor post and it only loosend up so I tightened it down. In your case since both went it is a long shot but it is still a possibility.

Good Luck,

For me it was the Wiper control board, I would turn the wipers off and they would stay in the delay position and never go into the resting spot. I dont know if thats your problem but its a cheap fix.

I do have a wiper motor if you need it. I have no use for it anymore.

Stanginrearview- Its the wiper control board, which is connected to the wiper motor.

Edit: Sorry I should add some info. The control board just needs to be taken off and replaced with a new one. Other than that I dont have any info though sorry lol.

I can take some pictures cause I still have my old wiper motor and control board lying around.

That just happened to me. The wiper mechanism that the motor drives sheared. Cheap part - $62.00 Canadian. I also replaced the control module as the wipers were acting up at full throttle, and pausing too much in the intermittent mode. Now everything works great.

Mine did the same thing a while back. The dealer fixed it. It's called a "cover kit", and should be about $80 installed by the dealer. I've still got the receipt somewhere if you need a part number.
