why is my car so slow?

I cant figure it out.. first I run 13.6 and now i just lost to my friend with camaro with only intake and catback. Now we did race on a turn and he had the inside lane but with my mods i should have been able to keep up.

So far all I know is that when we raced from 55ish the car took a long time to get out of lock up.. almost like it was spooling up and then it shifted. (even so I should have been able to catch up after that). And my car feels pretty sluggish down low.

Throw some ideas at me because Im getting really upset about my car lately..

Have you checked to make sure you have no plug wires that are arching or burnt? My car was running very slow for a while and I swore up and down that my plug wires were still in perfect shape. I finally gave in and decided what the heck I will check them. Come to find out I had a plug wire that was almost completely burnt in half I changed the plug wire and the car gained tons of power. The car didnt feel like it was running on 7 cylinders but I guess it was. So my advice to you is to check all your wires, especially since you have headers. Start with all the basics and work your way up from there. With the mods you have you should not be loosing to your friend.

It is the worst way to figure performance. The variables are to many when you figure in the turn and so on against another car. My car will down shift at certain speeds and force you back in your seat and other times not so good. There may be something wrong but i would use your 1/4 time which is not all that bad.

Was the other car a manual car?? My friend had a couple mods more than me but he was auto vs me being manual and it was very close from a roll.

Yeah something doesn't sound right...

Have you been to the track lately? Also depending on your buddies car it could probably run close to that 13.6 you posted in the 1/4 itself. I remember I was running around that with my CAI, tuning, and a cutout...

he ran a 13.7 I ran a 13.6. He is also auto. Im gonna check my plug wires tomorrow. I may even just do my plugs and wires just because I may need a change.

the only reason I questioned the plugs and wires are because they are OVC wires and NGK TR55 plugs. I have a carfax report that says the car was owned by some woman until about 8000 miles ago. The owner I bought it from who did all the mods to it (assuming the plugs and wires as well since they are OVC for long tubes) only put 3000 miles on the car and I put the last 5000 miles. I will check for burnt wires tho and probly just change em anyways.

edit* I cant find these plug wires I have anywhere. Where do you get good OVC wires?

if it feels sluggish down low then something cheap you could try is putting some seafoam into the gas tank once or twice, just my .02

yea I could try that.. maybe doing the whole seafoam thing might help.

Im almost tempted to take it to a shop and just see if they can diagnos anything. I figure they would be better at searching around and finding anything wrong then I would be.
