Had a 96 before this car. 96 was the first year for the orange stuff in the camaros.

I also recently drained my coolant. I put in some flush additive and distilled water....ran it for 30 minutes, then drained it again. Filled it with distilled water, ran it again to temp and drained it. Then I filled it with ~ 50/50 distilled water and 'the orange stuff' and purged the system. My coolant is also still dirty brown. No coolant in the oil and the system appears to be keeping the car cool. I guess it needs a power flush or something?

It appears you're not the only one.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/autom...m_dexcool.html

My only thoughts on this is that you should run it with just straight water for a warmup cycle to try to remove any more sludge that may still be in the block. After that I would fill it back up with dexcool and try to get it as topped off as possible because I don't think dexcool really likes air very much. When I had my 96 I noticed there was kind of a brown caking on the dipstick, but I just cleaned it off and never had any problems. I guess depending on your environment, dexcool may not be very good at all, and will last significantly less than the green stuff that has been in use for who knows how long.

I like Dex-cool. It is more friendly then the old antifreeze if you treat it right

if your car came with dexcool then use dexcool or read the owners manual. the dexcool wont corrode the aluminum block and parts like the green stuff does. I dont know if your block is aluminum since its lt1

like others have said already...as generaly rule of thumb all makes and models in 96+ got dex. before green. I have a 95 ta and it's green. Dex. is supposed to be better though it's supposed to last a lot longer than the green stuff.

So what do you do if you have a 96 and the green stuff is in it? Flush and refill with DEX?
