Why is my 95 Z missing?

Just started this morning on the way to work, full throttle and it moves out just fine with plenty of power.

Cruising in overdrive no problem but when I drop a gear and cruse with the RPM's elevated about 2 to 2.5K, it stars to miss. Almost feels like its skipping.

Any idea what might be causing this problem? I appreciate any feedback you guys might have..

Thanks,

Sounds like your engine is misfiring. I had a similar problem where in crusing or steady throttle no issues, but when then RPMs got higher the engine stumbled.

It turned out to be a burned plug wire. To test this you can check your car in the dark. Start the engine and spray round the wires with a water bottle mister. If you see any sparks that is your problem.

Good luck.

Just dropped it off at the shop for a complete diagnostic, still waiting on a call back but was looking for some of the possibilities from some of you guys that know this car best. I just don’t want to get ripped off.

Anyway, no ses lights have come on yet.

Thanks again,

Just got a call from the shop and they said it has two plug wires burned and that a tune up on this car and replacing the wires will run me $780.00. Is this true?

Ummm, wow is all I can say. Even a novice mechanic can replace the wires on LT1's without too much trouble in a couple of hours. I suggest you do it yourself and save a lot of coin.

Guy said he can't get to the wire on this car without removing the water pump and several other parts. Said it would take all day just to replace the wires.

You simply put the car on ramps and get the plugs out of the opti from underneath. I have never had to take the waterpump off to do this, and I am FAR from a "professional" mechanic. I think this guy is feeding you crap.

Thanks, I'll pull the car out ASAP! And do some shopping around for the best deal.

$780 is too much for 2 wires. It is possible to do the wires yourself. They key is to locate which two (obviously), then do it with patience.

If you get replacement wires you need to optispark ends at one end.

Good luck

Now the shop is telling me that they are replacing all the wires and plugs with platinum plugs. Using new Delco wires, they are also cleaining the manifold. Is it still a rip off?

Send them to hell. It's an easy job & not a perfect choise for plugs/wires. I hate when people trying to feed your BS and stealing your money. That is wrong direction of doing business.
