Why dont these engines come with 6 inch rods stock? There seems to be no price difference in aftermarket rods between 5.7 and 6 inch. So if most people recommend going 6inch when you do a rebuild then why dont they come stock with 6 inch.

We have high compression stock engines and they suck for superchargering which likes the 5.7 rods. So why not have 6" cuz other stuff will blow before the rod will on a stock engine..

???

Emissions and tooling have alot to do with it.

GM runs the same basic rotating assembly in all their v8 motors. They buy 5.7" rods by the thousands. It wouldn't make sense to stick 6" rods in their Fbody/vette motors and 5.7" rods in their trucks/vans/etc... Plus when you change the rods, you have to change the pistons and a whole bunch of other crap. So they keep it simple by using the same rods in all their v8 applications.

i just dont want to mess with the stuff anymore... forged internals so i'll beable to spray it in the future if i feel the need. or get bored with it. I dont want to deal with any unforseen issues or costs

Pushrods.

This thread is about connecting rods. Connecting rods connect the piston to the crankshaft.

Short of adding a tall deck block into the mix, which would make such a swap cost prohibitive, the longer rod requires the pin be positioned higher on the piston. From the oem's perspective, the potential sacrifice of longevity/durability, of and from the use of this shorter skirted piston, makes it an unsound corporate financial decision.

Just to throw some confusion into the mix.
The L99 which was the base motor in the Caprice during the LT1 years is basically a smaller stroke smaller bore LT1, and it used 5.94" rods. Displacement was 265 or 4.3l whichever you prefer, and yes it was the same bore and stroke as the original SBC from the '50s.

B4 I personally could reply with any degree of credibility, (if indeed I have any) I'd need a reliable/accurate source to obtain the L99 block deck dimension, along with the piston compression hgt. However, to take a blind shot at it, IF, by chance, that block has same deck dimension as an LT1 block, figuring in the rod length dimension noted by Dwayne, would suggest the piston compression hgt. is the same as the oem Lt1 piston.

You might want to consider rods shorter than 6" if you plan on spraying. You dont give up much with 5.7s or 5.85s, and you get a thicker piston deck and lower pin height.
