NOT TRUE!!! my car ran good when it was cold, then about 10 mins of running it started to run like crap!! its your opti man i PROMISE!!! how many miles you have on the car?
cause when mine did the same thing as yours..i replaced all kinds of **** b4 i felt like replacing the opti..i replaced fuel filter, pcv valve, TPS sensor, checked fuel pressure, changed coils, etc etc..
then the last thing i was going to do b4 i try my o2 sensors was the opti and luckily it was that!!
so good luck..replacing the opti is a DO IT YOURSLEF job..if you take it to the shop you dont deserve to own one of these cars!!

Yepper, that is exactly what my car did when the opti crapped out. Ran great 'til it got up to normal temp, then, missed and sputtered like a bitch.

yea the opti causes a LOT of lossed power!! what happens is when you try to give it throttle the opti doesnt send what its suppose to send to the engine/pcm..they go bad usually after 75-100k miles, but on my 2 cars the 1st one went out at like 75k miles and my new one went out at 93k miles!! so they differ!!
but seriously if you really need help on taking the opti out you can give me a call or emial me at randysatterfield@hotmail.com
its really easy but must be patient!!

STOP!!!!!!!!

NEVER ordr a part with out a diagnoises test first. You could end up wasting like 500bucks for a 10 dollar problem. I'm not sure who your dealer is but any Dealer should be able to hit your car with the Tech-2 to scan the codes for like 60 dollars. Seriously get your car scanned first. Could just be a bad sensor.

Opti is heat sensitive. Mine went out on my first long road trip. Knocking is problems in the cap, either bridging or loss of spark to a cylinder. My 1 and 7 bridged so both cylinders fired at the same time, it was 500 bucks to have a shop replace it. I'd reset the ECM and it would run perfect for 5-10 mins., then go nuts, got progressively worse. i Went out at approx. 80000 miles. Not a fun job, you'll get coolant allover the place doing it, and the crank pulley will refuse to come off.

You're not getting much help from the "me, too!" crowd, all screaming OPTI!!!!

Unless they're ready to buy one for you, start with the cheap, easy and logical steps.

First of all, give us your temps when the problem seems to pop up - It sounds very much like you're having a problem when your car goes from Open Loop (when the PCM runs on defaults, and ignores many engine sensors) and Closed Loop (when your car warms up, and the PCM takes over much of the engine management)

To me, it sounds more like a sensor giving your on-board computer bad information, and causing it to run badly.

Scan it, and replace the least expensive/most likely failed part...and then repeat. A new opti is too much work for a 'first stab' at what's wrong...

Hope it helps...

I would throw in some new O2 sensors they are not in use in open loop but in closed loop when the car heats up the O2s are giving readings to the pcm.
