That is where the weak little sub goes for the stock Bose sterio system. I think your CD player will have Bose printed in the bottom right hand corner. There are 2 speakers in the front doors and one that goes back there. The funny thing is, all 3 speakers are the same size and are just cheap foam and cardboard speakers. They are remotely powered speakers and not compatible with aftermarket sterio systems. You are not missing much with the absence of that speaker because the entire Bose sterio sounds bad to begin with. I removed the Bose/Delco equipment and put in a much better sounding aftermarket system.

Are you sure it has 5 speakers? Mine was a Bose and it only had 3. The two "speakers" in the back seats are just empty grills and there isn't a speaker in them. When I removed the grill cover to put in my new Polk speakers, the insulation had not even been cut to fit a speaker. So, there was no way a speaker could have ever been in there. Take the grill covers off in the back seats and see if there's a speaker underneath them. Maybe between 94' and 95' they upgraded the Bose sterio from 3 to 5 speakers, but I doubt it.
Turn up the sound on the Bose system and the speakers quickly reach their maximum ability, especially with base. You are left with an unsatisfying cheap cardboard poping sound whenever you play any music that requires base. Compared to the Mach 460 sound system found in my brother's Mustang Cobra, I was embarrassed of my cheesy 3 speaker Bose system. The two can't even compare. The Mach 460 sound system is vastly superior. Go out on the highway, put the windows down and you can barely hear the radio with the bose. The bose speakers don't even have tweaters built into them and they are made of cheap cardboard and foam. The little 6" sub, if you want to call it that, was such a joke. I like my '94 Camaro Z28 M6, but when I discovered how poor the sterio was, it was the first thing to go. I ripped the entire mess out of my car and put in an Alpine CD player with 4x Polk speakers, 2 MTX 10" subs, powered by Sony and Rockford Fosgate amps. I listen to trance and metal and the sound quality difference is huge.

Did the previous owner change the interior panels? When I change the panels in my Z from a Pewter/Brown color to dark gray the rear panel in the front had the speaker grill you speak of but I had no subwoofer or anything under it. It may be because when I bought the car the previous owner kept his aftermarket stereo and gave me the stock cassette player to use.

It has five speakers. The 2 in the back are really speakers. I've taken their grill off b/c it was vibrating too much, to calk the clips. I've got my bass turned up 'til about 3 little triangle things and my trebble up all the way, got it turned up all the way. And my "sub" it pretty damned good for stock!! It sounds great, even with the tops off and 85 down the interstate!
