Is there some trick to this piece of ****? I took the only bolt out holding it, I can pull it out about 2 inches then it just gets stuck on something inside the pan......so damn angry. Thing took about 30 minutes to unbolt the header, and spent at leaste an hour on this dam dipstick.

 

It's the way the tube is bent. You have to secure it near the block
whenever you bend it at the top, to pull it out some more. It's a
slow process. Watch out - if it gets bent within the length where it
lives in the block, you probably wont be able to get it stabbed back in.
I know - I ended up buying a new tube ($18 USD).

 

Why are you removing it anyway?

I took mine out for my header install, big PITA!!

Then to get it back in...i got it in just enough that it dosent hit the hood when i close it...but now i cant check my oil level...Smart idea on my part. lol

mine was hell, finally just took a vice grip and beat on it with a hammer!!

 

Mine takes 5 seconds to take out.

i bent mine up pretty good when i did my first set of headders and i just stuffed it back in as far as i could get it. i ended up buying a flexible dipstick tube off e-bay that seems to fit real nice and is alot easyer to get in and out.

 

Ya I finally got it out, After a good hour of wrestling I approached it from a new angel and it poped out. It didnt help that the header was lose ontop and putting pressure on it.

Heres a little trick to get it back in there:
Some people throw it in a freezer before they put it back in. I guess the metal contracts every so slightly and makes it slide right back in. I did that with mine and it went in so much easier.

 

Clean the section of the tubing that goes in the block. Mine had what appeared to be a hard sealant from the factory on it. I scraped it clean and applied a little Ultra-Copper on it. It went back in the block easily.
