Why did I pick up 14 whp with cutout?
Why did I pick up 14 whp with cutout?
Is it because the cutout messes up your flow of your exhaust to begin with.....Also this is with a borla so it's not like it was going through a muffler....
Well I think I understand what your trying to say. The exhaust comes out, goes into the cutout portion, can't go anywhere since its capped, then it creats turbulance, and thus the problem, is this what your thinking? I guess this is possible, I personally think the reason for more power is simply because its more freeflowing. Even though the catback is very much so, it still has to go through all that piping, and bends, and get jammed up in there. The cutouts let the exhaust flow right out without slowing down, and without cooling down, which slows it down also. I have cutouts and they are no where near as loud as my open headers, now I've never done a dyno to compare open headers to cutouts, but it seesm the open headers flow much more and would probably yeld more power. One guy on hear runs open headers at the track. He said he scanned the computer at the same time and there was only 1-2 degrees retard timing at the very high RPM range, he is using the Lt4 module, nd says its worth the extra power to run this way, since timing is barely affected. Ive seen articles where mufflered exhaust systems outflow open headers, because the exhaust was specially tuned for it. One such article can be read at www.carcraft.com I think exhaust systems can be complicated, because sometimes one system contridicts another, or flow better or worse than they should. No simple answers here, probably why so many people argue whats the best setup to use.
