Why arent my fans coming on?
Why arent my fans coming on?
I changed my waterpump cuz it was leaking, well i have bled and bled the system, the car heats up now and my fans do not come one when the car is running,,, but i can flash the codes off the computer and the fans does come on so i know they are getting power and are working properly, so does anyone know why my fans does not come on to cool the car down?
Re: Why arent my fans coming on?
First step I would do is disconnect the battery cable or pull the PCM Batt fuse. This will assure that you are not getting any errors from the PCM. Next option would be to follow one of the many manual fan switch diagrams available with a simple search. This will atleast allow you to drive the car and create a temporary solution. You may have a faulty temp sensor, but common sense tells me that when the computer senses a faulty sensor it would run the fans constantly. But, I am not sure of this. Try the PCM reset first.
Good Luck

Re: Why arent my fans coming on?
Do you have access to a scan tool? It will be able to tell you what the computer is seeing for engine temp and if the fans are being commanded on.
You do know that the fans don't come on until 226°, right?

Re: Why arent my fans coming on?
how far does the temp sensor screw into the waterpump, does it go flush with the pump itself?, i turned it some today and now my primary fan will kick on when i turn on the a/c,, but it is still heating up and i have bled the system all day, another thing is the smaller hose on the drivers side on the bottom of the waterpump is staying cool while the other 3 are hot to the touch, anyone got anymore ideas on this one?
Re: Why arent my fans coming on?
The temp sensor goes in only far enough that it does not leak. I would call it "fairly snug"
.
Might want to test that new thermostat in a pan of water. It is the correct long thermostat for the LT1, right?
I don't see where you stated where it is reading on the temp gauge.
You should also be able to verify that you are getting circulation in the radiator after the thermostat opens, so you can verify that the pump is working. You didn't leave off the coupler on the water pump drive, did you?

Re: Why arent my fans coming on?
yea, the fans come on extremely late....way to late....car gets hot as hell before they they on....definitly get a chip burned ( since you have a 93' ) and have them come on sooner...its much better.
Re: Why arent my fans coming on?
oh yea...and the fans always come on when the A/C compressor is on...car can run hotter when those pullies are running and the compressor is operating so i assume thats why that happens....but yes the fans should always kick on when the a/c is turned on. Get a chip...all will be well...
Re: Why arent my fans coming on?
my thermo is the same 160* degree one i had in my other waterpump and it is working properly, and yeah i left the coupler on the pump. i already have a chip guys from madz28 and its been on my car for about 10 months now and everything has worked fine, thanks guys for the info but any other ideas? im about to give up on it cuz no one around here can figure it out
Re: Why arent my fans coming on?
Does it over heat all the time? Did you put the coupler that drives the waterpump back in there. If you didn' it would cause the motor to over heat, but the water in the waterpump would not get hot enough to turn the fans on.
