Whoah....Thank you please drive through (comp cams)
Just got off the phone calling them about a cam for my heads, I got a 383 LT1 with a 11.2-3:1 compression ratio.
Head flow #'s:
.100 72/54
.200 138/110
.300 195/144
.400 245/187
.500 262/202
.600 262/208
First off, the guy was very polite however it felt like I was going through a car wash. He simply asked for the .700 lift numbers...didn't have them. Asked me for the .600 and didn't ask for the lower lift numbers. Asked me if it was for the street or track, I told him the track, but mostly for the street. Gear ratio (3.42) and if it had a six speed. Told me to hold on a second and waited about 1 minute on hold and gave me this grind:
112 LSA
236/242 .555/576 w/ 1.6
What do you think? I called them first since their a 1-800 and crane cams isn't so I gotta wait ti'll I get off work. How does that cam sound? He said it should have plenty of bottom end and should peak around 5900-6000.

Ok first off I'm going to give you my opinion on that cam and FYI I'am still runnning a stocker so this is my opinion only!
I would stay away from that cam. Everyone I've seen with it has low dyno #'s compared to other cams with ported heads compared to the CC306, or the GM847 or even a custom grind. If you are willing to go that big I would definatly suggest dropping that and getting the GM847. Do a search on it, lots of people have proved that it puts down the #'s on the dyno, and the track! Then do a search on the 236/242, I think you will see what I mean.
Again, to anyone with the 236/242, this is my opinion, so do not take any offense to it

The cam Comp specified, as well as the Crane cam, will work well if you want something with good street manners and well proven many times over. No need to reinvent the wheel every time, is there?

I'll do just that and thanks for the heads up. I was gonna go 847 however the lift is too much for my springs and I really don't feel comfortable going over .590 lift on a any cam.

What I want and I specified this to him, is a strong bottom end, I told him im not into peak horsepower numbers so I can go show off to my buddies, I want a strong powerband through out 2000 and peak to 5900 and be shifting around 6100-6200 rpm. Im not afraid of streetability after having a 306 in a 350, it really wasn't much of a change from the stock cam as far as drivability went. I told him I want torque and lots of it, I want to feel my head hit the back of my seat when I put the pedal down and he said with this cam i'll be peaking around 6000 and have lots of bottom end. *shrug*

I have the same cam except it's on a 112+4 LSA. Dave at Combination said getting it with a +4 LSA will lower the power band. I just finished installing it and haven't been able to drive it yet because I can't get the rockers/lifters set properly. I'm afraid I screw it up. It sounds very good at idle but I can't tell you a thing about it's performance. I'll post more info once I get it running right.
when calling the tech line at Comp or Crane, etc the answer you'll get really depends on who answers the phone. Last time I called Comp's line (with a question about valvesprings), after I told the guy about the engine I'm working on, he was like, "you're trying to do what?!? Please hold, I'm going to let you talk to my manager..."
The manager guy was pretty cool and understood what I was talking about. He helped me with what I needed and even went out of his way a bit to find a phone number for people that make custom Ti retainers since Comp doesn't offer what I need... When you do eventually find somebody who's advice sounds good to you, whether on one of those tech lines, or on one of these forums, keep their name and specifically ask for them next time...
