The motor im putting in is going to be a 383 built from golen engine service.. its got a 4340 rotation assembly and SRP forged pistons. The cam is a GM847 with 1.6 rockers and Comp R lifters. The Heads are the 210cc LT4 heads, you can see them on AFRs website http://www.airflowresearch.com/pages/210sbc_lt4.htm .. they are the bottom set... the comprssion on this motor is 10.50:1 and the car has 4.10 gears and an M6 with 36# injectors... Who thinks its an alright daily driver? I have had a few people tell me I shouldnt have done it, but some say ill be ok.. What are your opinions?

I think a lot will depend on ur driving habits ( i know how u drive ) But as far as driving it daily, might be a little rough....stop and go driving while putting out that type of compression/power/etc is never easy on a motor and other drivetrain mechanisms.

However I believe that CAM has been run in quite a few performance daily driven vehicle before and never had a problem. I say go for it, and see how u like it...i suppose u can always just drive it less or even result in removing some things to allow it to be driven daily.

I drove my 383 with a 306 and ported heads every day for a year without any major problems at the time it was my only transoptation. I would not be scared.

 

I think that would make a great daily driver!

 

How was your gas mileage? What kind of driving? And what do you mean MAJOR problems??? lol..

 

13 city 22 highway with 3.73 i had stuff break but none of it was related to the power train. I had to swap out optis but that happens on any lt1.

 

The 383 will eat that cam up. I'd go bigger

 

Agreed, I think that combo will be fine for daily duties...

 

hey guys,..i'm new to this board..but i'm on alot of the other f-body boards (z28.com,njfbody,beyondthequarter,etc)....i just figured i'd add my .02 on this post...i have a 396 stroked lt1 w/ 4.11 gears..etc etc...i drive the car alot..and it's an ok..daily driver...as long as u don't drive it in the snow(which i've done on occasion...kinda interesting)...and be extremely careful in the rain....but as far as driving the car in fair weather on the street..there's nothin wrong w/ it

 

If it is tuned right, it should have no driveability problems whatsoever. And if you have traction control, you should be fine in the rain also.

 

if you drive the car easy and get on it when you have to and your tune is real good i think it will make an awesome daily driver. and pity the unsuspecting moron that tries to race you.

 

i think itll be the perfect daily driver. as long as the tune is good itll be fine.......and fast.......as hell.

Custom cam, something in the 24x, .6xx lift range with a 110 or 109 ls.

 

.. I dont want to revv this thing to hell.. I want it to peak around 6000 and shift around 65-6700.. I want to make as much top end power i can without shifting to high.. The 847 i am hearing will revv too high..
