There has been much speculation that the EGR valve helps to reduce 6th gear interstate speed timing retard.

The main reason I removed my EGR is the to reduce the crap that makes it into the engine and to lessen the temps on the back of the intake to hopefully reduce the chances of LT1 intake oil leak.

Does anyone have proof that the EGR helps to reduce timing retard in tall gears?

I have no EGR valve on mine, and I have never seen any KR while cruising in a tall gear.

What is you compression ratio, I am running 11.2:1. I am sure that makes a difference. I never had tall gear timing retard with the stock motor.

The EGR is useless when you put a cam in with as much overlap as your cam has since the overlap basically does the same thing the egr does. Thats why gm took off the egr in the 01-02 f-bodys.

Good point, they also pulled the EGR on the LT4 for this vary reason.
