I'm pulling my hair out deciding which way to go with my car.

My current plan is a 383 NA with about 420rwhp max to keep it drivable. My overall project goal is Viper type performance.

I've heard the arguments on longer rods but everyone seems to think the 6" rod engines will not live as long.

I currently put 4-6k miles a year on the camaro.

Who out there has run 6" rods for a long period of time ? Say more than 30k miles?

 

I don't have any experiance with strokers of my own but I don't see why 6" rods would cause an engine to not last as long. I thought using them put less stress on the pistions, therefore making it last longer? I dunno, maybe someone who knows will chime in. I would like to know who has the most miles on their 383, 396, or whatever.

 

I'm also interested in this. I've never heard anything about it, and i'm trying to decide whether to go 355 or 383 with a BIG blower when i rebuild. I'm probably gonna rev to the fuel cutoff @7000 rpms.

 

im curious as to why you think 6"rods wont last as long?

 

the angle is what causes reliability, because a 6in rod is longer it puts more load on the cyclinder walls then say a 5in, someone will go into more depth or contact injunner

 

Based on some other postings in advanced tech on rod discussions.

well ive never ran a stroker motor but i did have a 73 camaro with 6" rods i drove for 2 years. believe me i put a ton of miles on that car. hard miles!! never a problem with the rods. i got the rings a few times with the 175 shot but that about it. i would guess i put about 40k on it in a little over 2 years. hope this helps
