Re: white smoke under accel...

White smoke usually means water getting into the combustion chamber. A blown head gasket would be the first suspect.

Leaks do whatever they want to do. A look at the plugs and a leakdown test should help diagnose it.

i pulled the plugs out they seemed to be fine...would they have coolant on them if it was head gasket? --who could perform a leakdown test--local mechanic or have to be dealership..(some1 with a specialty tool)

Re: white smoke under accel...

any mechanic can do a leak down test. Just need an air compressor pretty much...

And yes, a bad head gasket could cause white smoke only under accel.

Re: white smoke under accel...

but a leakdown test would let you know if it was the head gasket or not?

Re: white smoke under accel...

My car was doing that, but it was caused by a leaking transmission pan. It was leaking pretty bad and getting onto the y-pipe and cooking there.

After putting a new gasket and getting the bolts tight, I haven't had that problem any more.

A cylinder that was burning coolant would have a plug that was noticeably lighter and cleaner looking than the rest.

Re: white smoke under accel...

my car did that a few times ( while racing a buddy of mine he said that it would puff a quick cloud of white, basically while shifting gears, so the throttle would be let off of for a quick second, and at the time, i remember I hit the rev-limiter while racing him....)

I would guess that it could be blow-by or something else...I hope i don't have a blown head gasket

my car runs fine and dosnt smoke or anything ( only that one tim,e i guess)

i had that same problem for a long time, wasnt sure what it was till i got the dual exhuast put on and saw where the trans oil was baking onto the pipe lol. except mine was from the rear-main trans seal instead of the pan...

thats somethin else for you to check for, itll be easy to spot, just look where your pipe wraps around the back of your trans if it has a big black spot right behind the trans.. thats your problem. i thought it was pretty rare but i guess not lol. good luck finding the source!

Re: white smoke under accel...

White smoke could also equal excess fuel due to a injector stuck wide open..Does the car feel like it is loading up? If you have Longtubes pull off the y-pipe look into the ports in the header..sometimes you can just look at your o2 sensors also and they will tell you which bank is allowing water or fuel into the exhaust, then you can narrow it down to a specific cylinder..

Re: white smoke under accel...

I would think blow-by would result in blue smoke (or black depending on how much heat the oil is subjected to) and an injector being stuck open and other excess fuel, from any source, would result in black smoke, not white.

Sounds like water to me.

Perhaps shoebox can chime in; I'm no expert.

Re: white smoke under accel...

I'm speaking from experience on my car when I had an injector stick wide open on me Dont speak on hearsay.

1 side will be running SUPER rich telling all other injectors on that side to HOLD back on the fuel causing a super lean condition in those other cylinders.

I had fuel spitting out the back with ALOT of white smoke.

Re: white smoke under accel...

I hear you on the hearsay but I still don't understand how a lean condition can result in white smoke. Not saying you're wrong, it just doesn't seem right... ?
