whining sound in rear end

on my 94 z28 i can hear a faint whining sound in the back ...im pretty sure its the rear end...i can barely hear it though and when i turn the wheel it gets a little bit louder and when im accelerating i can barely hear it but i can hear it...i know it as to do with my rear end but i was just wondering. i know none of you guys know exactly to what extent my problem is or know what it is exactly but do u have a range of $ it would maybe cost to fix it...or any ideas of what it is exactly..thanks for your help

A small amount of gear whine is pretty normal.

Whining is acceptable.
Howling is not.

I wouldn't worry about it. Until you can hit the gas and not move, don't sweat it. A gear swap would cost you $200 for the gears, and about that much more for labor.

My rear end was allways quiet then one day I noticed a whining noise, most noticeable on decleration. Two weeks later I hit 2nd gear real hard and bye bye 10 bolt.

Yep, whining rear end, esp when turning, get ready for ten bolt to go, so save up for a 12 bolt, or......for a new posi unit/gears, when you do a burnout, do both wheels go or just one?

but yeah, happened to me last year. just take it easy on the car, else you will be stranted.

Everthing cost me about 450, thats with buying used gears off a board member. The rear end guy told me it would have been cheaper if I had taken it to him sooner instead of waiting until it blew up.
