Where the hell is all the weight at?!
Man I've got my car basically stripped w/ the exception of the Air bags and bumper supports and she still weighs in over 3700lbs. TT 93 LT1. Got KBDD's but EVERYTHING else has been replaced w/ lighter parts ie, control arms front and rear, wheels, brakes, DS, you name it. Only thing I haven't done is the k-member waiting for LG to put theirs into production.
How in the hell do I shave 300lbs off this thing? I see some 93's weighing close to 3300lbs w/ only the rear seats removed. Why is mine such a pig?!
Help!

Are you sure the scale you are using is accurate? 3700 is convertible with power everything kind of weight. Mine weighs around 3200-3300 without me in it and I've only done minor weight reduction: Back seats, spare, jack, AC. Was your car bought in the US or over there, maybe they have different crash standards in Europe adding more weight some where.

No my car is US spec. I just brought it w/ me on my assignment. It was weighed at a truck stop over here. Had a friend weigh his and his was 200lbs lighter fully stock and fully loaded. Don't know what gives but I'm gonna weigh it elsewhere and find out.

i'd take it to another scale and get a 2nd opinion!
with my basically gutted, only 2 front seats, door panels and headliner left in the interior with stock steering wheel and airbags, car weighed in at 3188 without me, i'm ruffly ~200lbs so close to 3400lbs with me in it and a half tank of gas
thats also with BMR k-member and lower a-arms plus Moser 12bolt and 17" wheels and tires
the exhaust doesnt weigh much either, no muffler or cats
i would say your scales are off

My raceweight last year was 3750, and I weigh 170lbs. T-top car, no driver's airbag, no back seats, no spare/jack. However things like a supercharger and 8pt. roll bar weren't helping. My car's a pig too, don't feel bad. I wish I could find out where all the weight is too.

That's just it. Why such huge differences w/ 2 identical cars? How accurate is the weight w/ you guys in comparison to sticker on the driver's door spec sheet?
I swear man I don't get it. I weigh 145 that's my race weight during the season and 155 the rest of the year. Tank was bone empty and still. Once I get it another weigh in and it's still the same I'll just have to live w/ it. My goal was to get the car into the 3200-3300 range but that looks impossible at this point. Seems like the car is made of lead.

3200-3300 with you in it or without? With you in it, that's going to take a lot of effort. Without you in it, you can probably manage it. You're just going to lose a lot of conveniences. Is that TT before your car mean T-top, or twin turbo? Cause if it's the turbos, those will definately be adding weight, not like you're gonna remove them or anything. To shave 300lbs off the car, here's where I would start:
Ditch the A/C and heat, and everything associated with it.
Ditch the airbags and all associated wiring, etc.
Acid dip or remove the bumper supports.
Lightweight seats, possibly remove passenger's seat for racing.
Remove radio/speakers/etc.
Remove all sound-deadening.
Lightweight carpet.
Cut crossbeams in doors if you have a cage.
Remove power steering.
Remove ABS.
Remove any and all emissions equipment and unneccessary underhood-components.
Remove exhaust after the headers, or fabricate a lightweight exhaust system. (Many exhaust systems can weigh 40-60lbs.)
I'm sure there are many other tricks out there, but these should get you well on your way to losing a lot of weight on the car.

Birdie. It's a T-top. TT's won't be til I get back state side.
The seats have been replaced w/ lighter seats, AC, Airpump have been removed as well. The radio stays along w/ the stealth box as well as the pwr steering. I run 11's all 4 corners w/ 285's for track use. The other wheels are my daily wheels which are light 42lbs ea including the tire.
Now the sound deading material is the only thing left for me as all the emission crap was removed yrs ago. Where can I find light weight carpet? Bumper supports is 50/50 for me at least the rear can go no problem but the front stays since it sags over time. Not to mention 175mph blast down the autobahn don't help the situation either w/ no front support. IF BMR made that tubular front clip for the masses I'd buy in a heartbeat but the don't so it stays until I get another Fbody to play w/.
Airbags I may just have to bit the bullet on that one. But it'll be my luck the day it's removed I may need it. Not! 5pt harness will do their job if all else fails.

i would think twice about the air bags, if you have a high speed tranny mount failure theres a box right in the consule which will trigger the bags in your face. At 120mph plus im not taking that chance. just a thought
