Where to buy brand new lt1 shortblock? How much?

I am looking for a new bottom end and I want it for under 2k. I really like the idea of having a brand new bottom that will predictably last a long time(unlike a rebuilt motor).Where should i look for one and how much do you think one would cost? Would Jason Chromer sell shortblocks?

AFAIK, the only way you can find one of these is "new old stock".... GM hasn't sold the LT1 motor in some time, so the only way would be old stock in someone's warehouse....

As for the assertion that it'd be better than rebuilt... I guess it depends on the builder and the parts. For $2,000 you could build one hell of a short block.... forged rods, forged pistons, forged crank (maybe even a 383), etc, which would hold up better than any stock motor if built by a good builder.

I don't think i can buy a block, gaskets, rods, crank, pistons, oil pump, bearings etc. and have the engine balanced and assembled for under 2k. And i still doubt reliability of a rebuilt motor. I haven't really heard of any rebuilds lasting very long while having the crap beat out of them on a daily basis. This is my daily driver anyways and i think i am going to turn the car in to a bolt on car for reliability reasons.

I seen quite a lot LT1 crate engines on ebay for ~1200+shipping. Check it out, do a search for completed items, and contact a seller who sold it before.

It cost me $950 for a rebuilt with forged pistons (used), heavy duty connecting rods (used), and everything new.

The only places you can get a new 4 bolt short block are

Scroggins dickey $1795 plus shipping
sallee Chevrolet $1650 plus shipping

How soon do you think you need one?
If you could wait till spring I would build you one for cost in the GM class I'm taking. I think you could build one for $1200 with forged pistons and rods and decent machine work

I would be curious if Sallee Chev still has any. I thought I bought the last one several months ago.
