Where all can an engine burn oil?

Ok, I have a 94 Z with about 78,000 miles. A couple years ago i did a a rebuild on it. I kept the stock pistons cuz the bores where still perfect. All the bearings were replaced though and I put new rings on it. This year i had the money to do a heads and cam package. When i got everything together it ran great and was strong. After a couple days it started to start hard. I put on a new opti from auto zone. I must have done something wrong cuz it woud ping like crazy under load and it woud miss all the time. I took it out and reinstalled it. It runs great now except it started burning oil like crazy. I dont know if this is related to the opti change but im about to go crazy. Lloyd suggested putting sealant on the rockers studs cuz i hadnt. I did that and it still smokes. Smoke even comes out of the dipstick tube and the valve covers when i open the oil cap. Where can this thing be burniing oil? Please help.

My motor started doing that (blowing smoke out of the dipstick tube and out of the oil filler cap) and my rings were shot! I dunno though Im not a mechanic!

Generally rings, or valve seals

Well that is really s**tty. The rings have less than 5k on them. Did yours smoke out the tailpipes too? I really dont want to take out this motor again. I have thousands of dollars wrapped up in one big piece of S**T!

Sure. Remove valve spring. Slide off seal. Slide on new seal. Replace spring.

Hmm..I guess im not all that familiar with how seals are set up. I thought they were pressed down into some sort of counterbore or something of that nature. I really doubt that is the problem since they are completely reworked Lloyd heads with about 50 miles on them. What would you guess it would be if its not the seals? Prolly rings? Im thinkin maybe when it was pinging really bad from the opti being on wrong that i may have messed up a piston or ring or something. What are the chances of that? THanks.
