When doing burnouts...

On a M6 when powerbraking the car just sitting ther torching up the tires, how long do you think the car can stay spinning if its held at 4000rpm while smoking the tires...not trying to kill the motor or anything, im just curious

My vote...until the tires pop. If you drop down to about 2k you could probably start to feel it bog if you get em real sticky...I suppose it would depend on your tires more than anything.

yea i figured that much, just wondering if you could blow the motor doing so keeping the motor in 1st gear at like 4000-4500 for a period of time

Re: When doing burnouts...

Nah, you should be fine... the tires will go faster than the engine anyway. If it were me though, I would make it a whole burnout event like I did with my last camaro before I put new tires on. Taped the whole thing. Lasts a whole lot longer, plus its not as bad if you give the engine a break once in a while. Plus, you'll prolly wanna drive it down the road and back to let it cool down. Remember, theres no air flow if your just sittin there. But yeah, go ahead and have fun. Thats what the cars were built for.... SMOKEY BURNOUTS!!!!

Re: When doing burnouts...

Yeah, thats the bad thing about the A4... 1st is about it for a nice burnout without it boggin down a bit.... well, atleast where I smoked my tires off. Not a very smooth road if you get my drift. Man, I wish they would just pave that old mile long dead end road that no one uses except for an entrance to truck trails and for racin.... and doin burnouts of course.

your rear rotors will probably turn bright red too if you don't have a line lock.

i dunno, i try not to be too hard on it... but i can boil them pretty good... i never usually spin long enough to try third though... i dont think i could get away with that on base... get a vid of it no matter what though... f-bod burnouts are always a great thing

I like when my shift my auto into second during a burnout. Its pretty nuts when the speedo reads 85mph and i'm not going anywhere (btw, 2.73 gears) Only do the shift when i am just messing around though.

Re: When doing burnouts...

I left my A4 in drive one time in the burnout box and burned 'em 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. It bogged after hitting 3rd with the Nitto DRs getting hot. I usually leave it in 2nd for the burnout box and put in drive for the line.

4500rpm isn't gonna kill your motor if it's in good shape and the fans will kick on if no air is flowing through the radiator (I have 160* stat and the fans reprogrammed so if you're stock, the fans won't come on till about 210-220*). You're more likely to blow a tire on an extended burnout so keep an eye on it and when you get down to the cords, call 'em spent.

Have fun.

Re: When doing burnouts...

Don't the fans go off after around 50mph or something like that?

Re: When doing burnouts...

I remember when i first got my car. the first time it snowed i sat in a parking lot and lit em up in 6th...nothing like your tires going 120mph and people are walking past you.
