O.k., I'm ****, but every time I fill up gas I write down the miles on the vehicle and the amount of gas used to fill the tank. It's just something I've done this since I bought the car new in '97.
I finally threw all the data into Excel, and looks like I've averaged 20.5 mpg over the life of the vehicle. I have a mix of city and highway driving, but the last 3 years, it's been skewed towards highway miles. The first 3 years I had the car, the average was 19.5, the most recent 3 years, the average is 21.5 mpg.
I'm very happy with the gas milage on our F-bodies. This much power, and good fuel efficiancy, relatively speaking.
I don't drive very slow either

I get a little over 300 miles to the tank (~310), so I think that works out to around 22mpg. This is during the week when i only drive to work and its all highway miles. I have gotten only 240 miles out of a tank of gas though.
I just started driving my v6 to work and letting the Z sit during the week and it got over 400 miles to the last tank, with it being all highway miles. I couldn't believe it...it never did that well back when it was my only car. Maybe taking off the 17s and CAI gave it better mpg?? I dunno.

I have been tracking mine for 4 years and 20.5 average is what I get with all driving. 3.23 gears and A4 (before new cam). Almost got 27 once and only one instance of below 16 in that time.
It has dropped a bit since the new cam, but I am still tuning

Shoebox. Sounds like our numbers are just about exacty the same.
Sounds like 20.5 is about right then. Thanks guys.
The worst I've seen is 16.1 and the best is 31.5, but if I drive strictly highway, I'll normally get 27-28 mpg.

I, too, have that cam, and with the fresh motor, I got 12mpg on the last tank! It was all city driving, with some lead foot action, but not alot.

(Prior to the rebuild I was getting ~18mpg.)
i get 18 mpg city and highway mostly city though! usually around 17-18 mpg is what i get! i want to drive all highway just to see how mcuh it will do but i dont drive 65-70 on the highway either so i know that dont help!
Fill your tank, take note of the gallons and the miles on your odometer. Divide the gallons by the miles. You may have to start by filling your tank, resetting the odometer, then one the next fill up go back to the first step. Then, reset your odometer and start over. This is also good to determine where your empty mark actually is so you don't run out of gas.

I think a 6 speed/auto and gears are also factors. You';d think an M6 car with 2.73s or so would get great mileage on the highway. I know my 93 z28 that had an m6 and 2.73s would go 70 at barely over 1000rpms.
