genearlly on a poorly designed engine is the horsies less then the torque am i correct? what are the flaws in this? what could be improved on this setup?

Not necessarily. The motor is a 383 which provides more tq for one. The cam profile probably has something else to do with it. And for 480bhp its probably making around 420rwhp. Not horrible for AFR 195's but not amazing.

.If you look at the tq curve its making over 450tq from 2200rpm and over 500tq past 5000rpm. That looks to be an great flat curve to me.

it seems like it falls on its face tho, that torque curve dies away pretty quickly

If Im reading that graph correctly its making over 400 tq past 6k. A stock LT1's tq falls off past 4500rpm. That tq curve looks great to me. Its still making hp past 6k as well. Id rather make good low to mid range power than have some amazing high rpm number.

When peak hp figures are higher than peak torque figures, the engine is probably peaking power above 6000. A typical case might be peak torque at 5000 and peak power at 6500. In that case you might see your numbers reversed: 480 torque and 512 hp.

This case is the reverse, so hp peak is probably around 56-5800. That makes the fw numbers sound a little high to me. A 383 is only about 8% bigger than a 355. I think 475 lb-ft for a 355 with similar specs might be high.

FWIW, those "dyno" curves don't look realistic to me. Check the 450 lb-ft of torque below 2500. Hmmmm.

Just my $.02.
