ok, i decided to bite the bullet and get the fuel pressure checker.. almost no pressure with the key in the "run" position, and 15 psi with it idling... pressure drops when the throttle is opened.. so its the fuel pump, correct? which pump should i get? ill be ordering tonight.. also, where should i cut the hole in the trunk? i definitely dont want to drop the tank.

That is very low fuel pressure indeed. I got the full racetronix drop in kit with wiring and everything for 249$. Dropping the tank is the only way i'd go after reading some posts where people replaced a fuel pump with the trap door trick and had them fail prematurely due to corrosion in the tank. Do yourself a favor and drop the tank and have it cleaned out. Do it right, do it once.

Use thunder racing. They are a sponsor. Go to their site and look under the fuel kits. You will see them there. Putting that stuff back on is just as easy as it is to take off.

that may be true.. but who ever enjoys putting stock parts back on once theyre off? thats how our gs got boxed control arms(upper& lower), 3.73 gears, new shocks and a rear sway bar.... all we were doing originally was differential fluid lol.

My opti took a sh*t a few days ago. Right after it rained. Is that when yours started?

I'd check/replace the fuel filter before blaming the pump.

Ditto

Also, remove the vacume hose from the fuel pressure regulator. If gas squirts out of it, it's a confirmed kill. It still may not be working right even if it doesn't leak. I would replace that with the filter ASAP. Stock replacement stuff is fine here, don't go crazy.

that sounds cool, although right now im saving up for opti, various sensors, and while im at it, maybe a hotcam kit.

BTW, is your buick a GNX? My dads friend has an 87 jet black Grand national. Not quits as fast as yours, but I love those cars

nope, gnx's shouldnt ever be modified this much lol. only made 547 of them and only in 1987. ours is an '85 with an '82 4.1 block, 4.000inch bore, champion iron heads, kennebelle plenum, bgc intake manifold, TE63 turbo 83lb/hr injectors, fully forged internals, a 207? cam. pte front mount, thdp(3inch) and a lot of other things. Hasnt seen street or track duty in about a year, weve been way too busy with our house, and our other cars. maybe youve seen this one around though?

anyways, replaced the filter today, now i get 3psi with the car off, and 20psi at idle... so it needed to be replaced but wasnt the problem. pulled the line off the regulator, dry. ill have the pump tomorrow.

your problem suggests either a fuel delivery problem or an ignition problem, based on what you said I'd blame the opti...

why does it sound like ignition, if the pump refuses to prime, or go above 20psi? i have no missing unless i try to go more than say 40% throttle. i drove around the block with the check on(through the cowl) getting into it resulted in almost 0 psi. if its in neutral, it will easily rev until 4500, then it falls off considerably.

dont take my doubting you as attitude, im honestly asking why it sounds like ignition.
