whats wrong with my car?!
whats wrong with my car?!
took a friend home to purdue from indy ( about 1-1:15 of interstate ) last night. when coming home on one of the ramps to another interstate my car was real rouch and almost bucking when i accellerated back to speed. then this morning my car wouldnt start. crank and crank and crack but no start. held the pedel to the floor to unflood it and still nothing let it sit awhile and STILL nothing.....FINALLY after holding the pedel to the floor and feather the pedel some it started but was a very rough and studery start.......any ideas????
it does this everytime i drive very long on the interstate...studers and wont start right away the next day.
could it be some sort of vapour lock or bad wires or what?

Re: whats wrong with my car?!
Check it anyways. Since it's been recently replaced, I'd assume you changed the filter as well. What kind of pump did you get? I think he Granatelli has issues with the check ball that lets the fuel drain back into the tank after the car sits. It will take a few seconds to get it to fire up again, but it wouldn't cause it to stumble once it was runnning. I know cause mine has this issue, and mine did EXACTLY what you described before I changed my pump.
If all else fails on it being a fuel issue, I'd point at something in the ignition, though from what you've said it seems unlikely it's not fuel related.

Re: whats wrong with my car?!
the new pump was a GM pump from a dealer. i wasnt paying for it so i didnt pick the pump put. i also just had the 60k service done to clean the fuel system and everything else. i'm goin to get new plugs and wires and try to get them on soon and see what that does.
Re: whats wrong with my car?!
Come on man, spark is the easiest thing to find. When the car craps out, pull the coil wire and insert a plug wire with a plug on it and have someone crank it over. Think about what you want to do. There is no way that all 8 plugs and wires have a problem after driving for a while, let alone one. Your tossing money at the problem.
Although you had a new pump not long ago, don't assume it's fine. It only takes a minute to check.
What you ought to do when it craps out is relieve the pressure in the fuel rail. Then turn the key on without starting and then turn it off. Do this 5 or 6 times and then relieve the pressure at the fuel rail again. That is if there is any pressure there.

Re: whats wrong with my car?!
Engine off, pump cycled a few times, 41 - 47 PSI. When the pump stops, it may vary some what. Engine running, that reading will drop normally 3 - 10 PSI from the previous reading. Don't even be concerned with WOT at this point.
Have you gotten any numbers yet?

Re: whats wrong with my car?!
havent got to test the pressure yet because i'm in the process of moving. was taking a load of stuff to the new condo and noticed that when i would slow down for slower traffic then accelerate back to speed it was bogging down/"bucking"/popping,crackling,banging........does it sound more like this is a plugs and wire problem or fuel pump.....
