I took my car out today and my guages started to jump around -> the speedomoter, tach, and voltage guage. Also, when I try to start my car, it doesn't start the first time, I have to turn the key off and then try again for it to start. None of the turn signals work, either, but the hazard lights work. any ideas

sounds like a bad chassis ground. Not sure where to look as i am a transplanter not an Fbodyer. Check out Shoebox's site maybe there is some good info there.

 

come on guy if i dont find out whats wrong with my car i cant get it tuned . so i go out to mess with it today and the car wont strat wont even turn over

 

like i said bad ground battery cables or maybe fusible links

hmmm first part sounds like alternator going bad - mine would cause gauges to jump all over place- but i dont see why your turn signals dont work

So, is it not starting, now? Does it crank or crank but not start? Gonna need some details if you want anyone to try to help. List all troubleshooting steps you have taken so far.

Might check those battery cables. They can corrode on the inside and you would never see it. I've seen this happen many times. You can have good voltage without the amperage.

it not even cranking over the fuel pump dont came one, gauges dont even move, the only thing that works is the radio . im getting power to the starter but not to (or from ) the ign how ever it goes .

Maybe a dead battery. What do the headlights look like when you turn them on? Leave them on and try to start the car. What do the healights do, then?

 

the headlight are fine when you try to start it .im getting 12.7 volt at the battery.


you know the little matel taps on your key mine are worn down to the plastic do you think that would make it not start with the vats

Is the security light on? If you had a VATS problem, it would stay on. The security light does come on at the bulb test when you first turn the key ON, doesn't it? Then it should go out.

Sounds like it could be the ignition switch. If you happen to need to change it, there is a guide on my Tech Page. There are also starting and charging schematics so you can trace/troubleshoot any problems.
