whats these hoses for

what are the hoses for that hook to each head in the back on the lt1?? looks like coolant but the motor i got didnt come with them so i cant tell.

Those are air bleed off lines, it prevents air bubbles from forming in the heads & promotes better cooling while preventing hot spots developing etc...

It eventually runs to the radiator. The routing depends on the year.

93-94

95-97

I wanted to weight in on this. these lines are supposed to be a intrical part of the lt1 reverse cooling system but can anyone explain why the majority of SB chevys do not have these lines? (besides the fact that the majority are not reversed cooled) and Are they really that nessesary?

Other SBC's have coolant crossovers in the intake itself. The LT1 uses a "dry" intake in that there is no coolant flowing through it. So it uses the "external" crossover tube instead.

Man I love this board quick good answers thanks eddie I never knew that. I guess I will look for theose rubber washers now to put this back on.

Actually you should probably buy new ones. They are pretty cheap and that would be a crappy area to find out you have a leak after everything is together.
