The question is in the title. What's the advantage and is it something I really want or no?

It was basically designed to be less "sensitive" to engine noise compared to the LT1 knock module due to the LT4 having roller rockres [more engine noise]. By being less sensitive I mean it won't pull timing for engine knock as soon as a LT1 module would. So if you add headers, roller rockers, big cam, anything like that it keeps the PCM from pulling tons of timing and running like mashed potatoes.

So essentially without those mods, it would do nothing for me right now?

That is correct...it will do nothing for you. If you were to do a real time scan of your car when driving you should find little to no spark retard. If you add roller rockers, you can expect that the timing retard would be significant . In that case the LT4 knock module would help.

It's not that the LT4 module is less sensitive, it's just not sensitive to the frequencies associated with the noise the roller rockers make. It will still pick up detonation and protect the engine by retarding the spark timing.

There are other methods of defeating this issue. You can, by some mildly creative wiring, actually desensitize the stock LT1 module. The problem is that it would be less sensitive to true knock...
