WHats my next step?

Ok Guys please help me make this decision here, i believe i may have stripped the steam pipe thread on my driver side, i converted to AN fittings while the engine was in and now i cant get a 1/4NPT steel nipple to thread in with ease. My question to you is should try and chase the thread if its even possible being that the engine is in the car. Or do i have to tear the whole thing apart again to take the cylinder head off. Thanks for your time

You can take the cylinder heads off with the engine still in the car. I have my doubts you can fit a thread chaser in there with the engine in the car though. So you converted the steam pipe to AN?

I know I can take the heads off but do I need a new manifold gasket and cylinder head gasket? I'm just hoping I don't have to go that route....Hoping, yes I converted, lots of write ups on it just did it too late and not while I did my headgasket swap

Yes, you will need to replace the gaskets. It will be a difficult repair, because you cannot see much of what you are doing (maybe why it got stripped in the first place).

Re: WHats my next step?

i did get to start the car finally today with out any check engine light or leak. I did notice an unusual amount of smoke coming from the engine, anybody experience this before. We are talking about 5 mins of idle time and engine smokes, car hasnt been started this long since the headgasket swap and has been sitting awhile.

Could the smoke be from me capping the dip stick tube hole out of the oil pan, During my head gasket swap i couldnt get the tube back in and ended up breaking off the tip so i just capped it?

Thanks

Is an AN fittings pipe thread??? I just assumed that the threads were normal machine threads.

Smoke from where on the engine? If you leaked oil everywhere, if could smoke for awhile.

Re: WHats my next step?

I would first try to verify where the smoke is coming from before driving it. Like you said, better not to hurt anything.

Generally after I do anything major, I let the car idle and verify proper functions like water temp, idle speed, check for loose hoses, leaks, check engine lights, etc.If all is well, then I take it for a little shakedown cruise, come back and after a cool down check bolts again, look for more signs of leaks.
