What's a hotcam and will it work in a stock motor?

I know a hotcam is a cam upgrade of some type....just not sure if its a stock cam out of another GM engine, or an RV cam ect? And what kind of performance increase would it give a stock LT1 with an auto? Worth it by itself? Thanks for any info guys

I would install LT headers & a good exaust first, then a cam, the hot cam is a Corvette LT4 cam (if i'm not mistaken) & its a good overall cam upgrade for the LT1, but you'll need to change the springs too, & from what i've heard, the springs that come in the Hot Cam kit aren't that great.

If you get the LT4 kit. It will come with what you need to throw it in.

But if your a newbie to an LT1...seek help right away. Its not a stroll in the park.

Well its a stroll in the park...on a dark rainy night with axe murderers chasing you

hope i didnt scare ya

It's a bit bigger than the production LT4 cam. (218/228 VS 203/210)
It makes a nice upgrade if you want to avoid a heavy lope.
I'm not crazy about the springs that come in the kit though.
There are many many cam options out there to suit your specific needs,
you don't have to settle for what's on the shelf or what you see in people's sigs.

I agree though, bolt-ons (supporting mods) first. Or at least at the same time.

its a nice cam for some people. has a nice choppy idle. makes pretty good power for all the hate it gets. proven itself time and time again. great for a budget build for some who just wants a little more power over stock. with bolt ons it will be in the 12's

The fact you asked such a question means you are a LONG ways from ready for such a thing. Focus on boltons and forget about engine mods for the time being.

A hot cam will not get you 40 mpg, like your stock motor/set up

You're funny Didn't you catch the sarcasm in my 40mpg post? I've never checked my mileage, but my bird gets about the same as my wifes little V-6 on the highway..prolly mid 20's or so if I had to guess.
And from the info you guys have given me I think if I do any more mods they'll be bolt-ons....exhaust ect. I don't think its cam time for me yet. Thanks for the great feedback tho
