Whats a good Injector
Whats a good Injector
I just had the Opti-Spark, Wires, Spark-Plugs and Water pump repalced. ( Thanks Jason for the great Prices) The guy who did the work said I need to replace my Injectors (car has a 150,000 miles on it) He said the pump is good. He has no reason to just make this up He knows I will install these myself. What I need to know is what kind to get, I think Ford Racing ones will work and they are alot cheaper. But what kind and where to get.
I believe you are referring to the SVO injectors (made by Bosch). I would go that route before I paid for a new set of OEM injectors. If not I would look in the for sale section for some used OEM injectors.

The SVOs and reprogramming for them is cheaper than stock replacements, the cheapest I could find stock rebuilt units was something over $40 apiece(some up to $90), whereas the SVOs are a better matched set and only $220 or so for a full set, makes the decsision real easy.
The accell think might have to do with rating them at a different pressure, that and on some other vehicles it is harder to retune the pcm so when guys do something that changes the motor they throw bigger injectors at it and let the O2s pull all the exessive fuel they are dumping in. Not to mention the aftermarket would have us believe that their injectors are a performance upgrade over functional stockers which they aren't. The only times to consider new injectors are failing stockers, stockers have become too small due to at least a LARGE cam most guys will need heads and cam before this applies, forced induction that will spike fuel pressure becuase at too high a pressure the stockers lock closed whereas the SVOs lock open and won't do so till a higher pressure.
Seems like most LT1 tuners prefer the SVOs over the Accels anyway, something about the pcm tables being a known factor for the SVOs and the Accels can be tought to dial in just right. Aslo heard some hard start complaints about the Accels.

I guess I was always under the impression that the stock injectors did not have a lot of headroom. Still, for $219, I'm buying new ones soon, and I won't be buying stock sized injectors. I'll probably get 30lb. and just reprogram with LT1-Edit until I have enough mods to take advantage of them. Personally, whether they're needed or not, if you have the means to program for them, I say get the cheaper set, even if they are rated higher than stock.
I think there are way too many knee-jerk reactions to mods like this. The throttle body debate comes to mind. So what if they're bigger, just update the programming and go about your way.

If future more serious mods are in order then absolutely step up to larger injectors now if you have to replace them no sense in buying a near stock set now just to outgrow them in a year or so. This is exactly why I tell people to think about a future cam swap before automatically buying 1.6 rockers since some cams get a little extreme on the exhaust lift with those and 1.5s are a better choice then.
I know of people making over 400hp on stock injectors, so there is room to grow before needing to replace them. When programming for the 30lbs. units you do know there is more to it than just the size rating.
