whats going on? need help

In the past my car ran an average temp of halfway on the gauge or i geuss 210. About a month and a half ago i was coming back from a 2 1/2 hr trip,(wich actualy only took us about an hour and a half ). We came to the notorius racing spot here in houston and got out and looked around, got back in the car pulled out of the parking lot, i tried to give everyone a show by getting on it and scratching second. Right after i did that my gauges said check gauges.. i looked and my temp was tacked at 260. I quickly pulled over and noticed fluid leaking out. Anyway i decided to have my dad fix the car.

we fixed the radiator, replaced the sensors on the radiator and on the water pump. Got a new 160 t stat. And now my car is still on the verge of over heating. It now mostly stays on the last line before 260. Whats wrong with it? Is it normal? Why was it running so cool before? Thanks for the help. Sorry if i made it too unclear let me know if you need more detail.

Did you bleed all the air out of the system? The LT1 has two bleed screws, one at the t-stat housing, another on a hose near the t-stat.

If you didn't, the car will definately run hot/overheat.

When exactly is your car overheating? is it on highway or stop and go trafic.
This problem could be chased down to water or air.
On highway driving with AC working I get less than 1/4 on my gauge in 118 weather.

IF the gauge was running at the half way point for most of your trip, something was wrong to begin with. definatly check to make sure there are no air pockets in the system, as stated above.

my dad was thinking that my fans wernt coming on but im not too sure.

the other day i was driving to work and my temp was at 260 again, i got to work and realized that the conector that connected the hose running to the heater core broke off??????? wtf

the temp stays at the line below 260 on the highway but when i get to a red light or just regular street driving it gets cooler.

If u'r getting high temps at highway speeds then you either dont have an air dam, or have a front spoiler thats somewhat defeting the air dam and need an air dam extension.
The cooling fans shut off when you strat to drive and reach 40 kph i think then the incomming air from the bottom of the car nose does the cooling and is more efficient than the fans.

It's that big black plastic piece that hangs down underneath the radiator (about 4-5 feet wide, 6-8 inches tall, held on with 5 bolts). It directs air up into the nose and through the radiator for cooling. If it's missing, you'll be overheating (or close to it) when you're driving. It won't affect you if you're stopped since the fans will come on.
