what's this button do?

i have a 97 z28.

my dad has a 2000 z28

the interiors are the same, same options exept his has ttops.

but other than that they have the exact same interiors.

only he has ASR (traction control)

where his has the "ASR" button, mine just has a blank button that i didn't think did anything, until i took off the cover to install a cd player. and that "blank" button has a wire running to it.

what's this do?

it doesn't activate any type of traction control....i spin through first gear no matter what i do.

Hmm then you probably dont have ASR. If you do, theres a big black box on the driver's side valve cover and the ASR motor is right under the ABS modulator under the hood next to the airbox. I know in the Mustangs the provision is still there for traction control but theres just a cover where the button goes.

the button doesn't have anything written on it, and it doesn't push in.

it's like a pastic "filler" or something.

almost like someone wanted to disable the ASR. so the just unhooked it and found a blank filler.

i completely understand gm leaving a provision there, incase someone ever wanted to install ASR, or just to simplify production of the dashboard.

i just don't understand why they were so kind to lead a wire to that fake button.

simple, they probably just used the same wiring harnesses for all cars. saves money for gm, and provides less of a hassle to deal with other wiring harnesses.

atleast thats my take on it.
