Whats the best way to find an exhaust leak???

I have heard of using a long piece of hose and probing around but wouldn't it burn if it touched the primary??? I mean I never tried it but anybody that has please chime in. Also, I have a mechanic stethoscope but for some reason it doesn't reveal the location of anything. I recently replaced the pass. side header gasket and it seems that I still have a slight leak somewhere on the driver's side. I need to know where it's coming from (header primaries or y pipe connection) so I can fix it. Is there any tricks to finding leaks on the y pipe flange? I have an extra GM metal flange gasket for that side but I want to find the leak first. Thanks in advance.

I have pieces of garden hose I use to find where noises are coming from, including exhaust leaks. Don't worry about burning the hose on the header, as long as you dont leave it pressed against the header for very long it won't be bad.

Yes, seafoam does work. If smoke comes out anywhere but the tailpipes you have a leak. I found my Y-pipe exhaust leak that way. Plus it cleans the hell out of your engine.
