I was reading through some posts earlier today and it seems that most of you on here are trapping 110+ with the Hotcam and bolt-ons. I trap ~85 MPH in the 1/8 and ~107.5 MPH in the 1/4 with mods in sig. I basically have shorties, CAI, catback, Hotcam kit, the free mods, and a PCMFORLESS tune. The only bolt-ons I'm lacking AFAIK are a TB and MAF. Are these respectable traps with a 3,700 lb raceweight? My Opti is original with 140,000 miles on it, but the car seems to run perfectly fine with no hesitation, stumbling, or any problems whatsoever. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

 

See sig. A4 with 3.23 gears and stock torque converter.

 

I consistently trap at 112 with a highest of 114.
mods in sig. The 114 was before the new intake. I'm hoping for a few more mph now.

Are those traps with the LE heads, or the stock heads? I was contemplating getting my heads ported by Lloyd. Which heads do you have, LE1, LE2.....?

 

Yes the heads are LE heads. They were done about 2.5 years ago before he started assigning numbers to his combos. They have 2" and 1.56" valves.
I am very happy with the heads. I am planning on getting a LE2 cam from him in the next week or so.
If you go with his heads you will be very happy with them.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I feel a little better knowing that not everyone is trapping 110+. I very well may give Lloyd a call sometime in the near future. It looks like his heads provide awesome power even with a small cam like the Hotcam! If anyone else would like to throw in their two cents I would greatly appreciate it.

 

what kinda 60ft did you pull to hit 8.1 ??? I think my car has sub 8.0's in it just need to get there. I keep tuning the car up , and it keeps getting faster. I think my egr is leaking. Gonna block it next , put some new o2's in it (factory are still in there at 104k miles they have started throwing codes) , and get some DRs .

I ran a 7.9 at 92 in the 8th with mine I have csi water pump, long tubes 1.6 rr and the free mod stuff

 

1.87 60 ft time on my 8.1 run. BFG drag radials, stock suspension and Midwest 2800 stall. I could have used some more stall because I dead hooked with no problem at all that night.

 

cool . just wonderin . I think my mph is a lil low for my mods altho im not sure. I know have some gremlins somewhere tho. Would a leaking egr and bad o2's effect mph ??? I thought the comp ignored o2s at WOT ???

 

I think your MPH is a little low also. There could be a few possible causes-

Who did your tune? I ran my ported heads/HOTcam on the stock tune for a week until my mail order one arrived, it was so rich sometimes it would just backfire when I hit the gas. Ran a best of 8.6 on stock tune, picked up .5 with the mail order.

Do you have an LT4 knock module? You could possible be picking up false knock.

Not sure how a leaky EGR would effect you, but if the 02's are suspect definitely get some new ones. The computer uses a power enrichment table at WOT, and while the 02 sensors are not as important then as they are at part throttle, some new 02's might get you some more gas mileage.

 

If the O2s read rich at part throttle, the PCM carries that into PE mode and adds fuel, so yes, it's important, even if indirectly.

My Z28 has a PVC intake and will soon have a dynomax muffler. Assuming everything else is stock, what kind of trap speed should I expect from the hotcam alone and DIY tuning? I think my car is around ~100mph now, maybe 101.
