what would you do (bottom end rebuild)

I'll make this quick, I installed a 847 on a 4 bolt 35,000 mile crate, and it spun a main and a rod bearing.

so the motor is pulled, and completely torn down and I'm sitting on it. I have about 1000-2000 bucks to work with. I still just have stock heads.

I'm not sure if I should just do a good 355 bottom end with some good bearings so i can spin it, try to do a ****ty 383. I need to build something that will last and do some good long highway miles, the car is more about mountain driving then drag racing.

Hopefully I'll do something soon, thanks for the input.

What rpm's were you turning the engine to with the 847 in?

I'm not sure but, I think the cost of building a 355 and a 383 are pretty close to the same.

I'd build a 383 using a Scat 9000 crank Scat 6" 4340 forged I beam rods and Speed Pro/TRW forged pistons with that cam and do some minor head work (bowls gasket matched ports & valve job) and then you'll really fly.

Whatever you build get Clevite "H" series brgs. They ain't cheap but you won't spin them at any RPM--If you have proper clearances and oil pressure--.
If you can come out with a .010-.010 crank and 1 rod, brgs and rings,I would build what I had and make the best of it.Don't put Molly ring's in it either, they are good for my lawn mower or tow truck.
