WHat would make way too much fuel be dumped?
WHat would make way too much fuel be dumped?
WOndering what components (sensors, etc.) would cause the PCM to make the injectors dump way too much fuel into the engine at a cold (open loop) idle as well as warmed up.
Re: WHat would make way too much fuel be dumped?
Actually, it was a WOT run that made the engine run extremely rich all the time....even at idle. Not running the car on the road until I get it fixed.
According to my Chiltons manual for my '97 LT1, there is a MAP sensor between the first 2 injectors.
When I read my codes, I didn't get a P0107 (MAP circuit low voltage) or a P0108 (Map circuit high voltage). I guess the MAP could still be bad even though it didn't throw a code.

I would say check the readings on your O2 sensors, if they are burnt out this can happen or if you have an exhaust leak before the 02 sensors it will do it as well.

Also map sensors never break. It is the black thing with the green clip on the top of your intake. Though it may have clogged. It comes right out. You will see a hole on the bottem of it. Check there for any clogs.

A bad fuel pressure reg is a good possibility. Pull the vacume line and see if there is fuel in it or if it smell of fuel. The diaphram can rupture and fuel will get sucked into the engine through the vacum line.

Hey All,
Thanks for the great suggestions on possible culprits. I'll definately check the regulator as well as the MAP. I'll be changing both pre-cat O2's this weekend (if they arrive by Uncle Sam). I'll keep everyone posted on what worked, what didn't.

Missfire can also dump a lot of fuel, cause the O2 sensor sees the missfired cylinder as a lot of air thus it thinks the mixture is lean, and it will add fuel to try and richen the bank the missfire is on.
