car starts and runs like a champ, then after about 20 minutes it starts backfiring and missing like hell....practically undriveable. Park the car and turn it off for abbout 20 minutes are so and it starts back up and runs great again for 15 minutes or so then starts missing and backfiring again......what the heck?? Opti is 4 years old but only has maybe 5000 miles on it....though they are mostly racing miles..
Re: What would make a car do this>>>
really, didn't think of that. I have a set of OVC Taylor's on the car. Just don't know why one of them would all of a sudden "break".....How did you know it was broken?

Re: What would make a car do this>>>
should I eliminate the idea that it could be the opti? What makes me think it's not is that the car does run perfectly fine for like the first 20 mins or so then it goes to crap....I figure with a bad opti it would run bad from the minute I start the car
Re: What would make a car do this>>>
True, maybe. Ya got to figure heat into the factor.
But it seems to run bad when it goes into closed loop so the O2's would be a good starting point.
Do you have access to a scanner and not just one for the trouble codes?

won't it run like crap with the O2's unplugged?
Re: What would make a car do this>>>
If your o2's are to blame then you should see no change. A laptop and datalogger would be easier and would tell you alot more. Just rule out stuff one by one before you buy parts and one thing I learned is it doesnt matter if you installed something new 2 years ago or 2 hours ago dont think it cant be deffective or crapped itself.

I had a problem similar to this. One of my o2's were to blame. I unplugged it, drove around for a while. Drove fine. Plugged it back in, and I found my hesitation.
