What will it take to drop the motor?

Well, this winter I will be installing a cam, roller rockers, springs, new header gaskets, electric water pump, and a stall.

I want to take the motor out since it will be so much easier to work on the motor. However, I want to keep my headers on the engine but I dont think they will be able to come out of the top while on the engine. So what will I have to do to drop the motor out of the bottom. Keep in mind that I will have a Rotary lift available as well as all the other tools. Thanks for your help!

Thats the guide i went by when i did mine. I used a engine hoist to lift my car up it went fine. I was impressed at how easy it was to do.

I did it myself with minimal resources (including no electricity) so it's definetely not that bad.
Here's a picture of mine. As you can see, it was done in a storage unit too.

You will need about 3 good floorjacks (if you have more, even better) one of which can be a tranny jack, but I did it with regular jacks.

I used 2 jackstands, a pair of ramps and some concrete blocks.
Other than that, you will need a set of good tools and some extensions.
It isn't too bad at all especially if you have more room than I did.

For what you are going to do, I think it would be much easier to just leave the motor in the car and just pull the heads off.
If you really want to pull the motor, I would just pull the trans crossmember, lower the back of the trans so you can get all the bellhousing bolts, drop the trans and then pull the motor from the top.

#1) Seperate exhaust near the cat
#2) Remove tires
#3) Remove brake assembly(disk and mount)
#4) Unbolt spring(s) from the lower control arm
#5) Obviously remove anything from the motor that hold on to the frame(wire harness, air induction, misc. parts)
#6) Use a jack that will sit under the motor like a craftsman motorcycle jack and than another regular car jack to hold rear of transmission.
#7) Dont touch the motor mounts
#8) Unbolt the lower suspension from the frame with the motor still attached.
#9) Remember to unbolt the transmission cross brace and undo all the wires.

Took me about 4 straight hours of work to get Er' done.
