hey, i was wondering what my car would run. mods: intake, long tubes, exaust, u/d pully, drag radials and im about to buy some stage 2 gtp heads. the car is a 6spd with 73,000 miles, the elevation is 1400.

i was also wondering what you guys thought about gtp heads? thanks

 

no help? i would atleastlike to know your guys opinions on gtp heads, i ahven't heard much about them.

 

GTP heads are the BEST.. on lt1's or lt4's but you'll pay for it.And you'll wait for them.

 

Well, I have GTP Stage 2 heads from 1999. Back in the day(98-02) GTP heads were the unquestioned leader in LT1 heads. I still believe that is true. I made 405 RWhp with a HOT cam through an automatic. Pretty good I think, how many people claim that today. To be fair, I spent MANY hours tuning the combonation.

BUT, it sounds like you're putting the GTP ported heads on a stock cam cam. I gained 40 RWhp with the HOT cam. With a stock cam I would guess you'd gain 20 RWhp.

 

Just curious, mainly because I've never heard of any number like that coming out of a hotcam (RWHP speaking at least), but was that an engine dyno or what?? What kind of dyno was it on if the engine was in the car??

Dynojet. I know not a lot of people get these good results from a HOT cam, but you've gotta understand I have spent YEARS tuning and tweaking it. I had the heads and cam on the engine in 1999 and only made 364 rwhp. Optimizing every other part of the engine brought it over 400.

Also a little clarification, I posted the GTP heads gave me 40 rwhp, but I forgot to mention that I bumped the compression at the same time to about 11.5 to 1 with milling on the heads and an Impala head gasket. Which would result in 10-15 of that 40 hp.

 

Man, that's impressive to say the least. I'm curious, what did you find that did or didn't work well with the combination?? Reason I ask is because I've got a hotcam/ported heads car that I just feel is lacking. It's no slouch, but not where I'd like to see it either.
