What is the widest size tire you can put on an 8" rim?

What is the widest size tire you can put on an 8" rim?
I am thinking about buying these used 18" x 8" wheels. But if I can't at least get a size 275 tire on them, then I'll get the 17" x 9" SS wheels.

A 255 series tire is about all that you can fit comfortably.

And let me guess on the wheels....Eagle 077s?

The funny thing is 255's will fit on 18x8's but not on 17x8's. I checked www.nittotire.com for a comprehensive tire vs approved rim width guide.

I plan on getting 18x8 IROC's for my third gen.

I'm in Edison. Moving to Bound Brook in 3 weeks. Where is Woodstown? I never hear of it.
