what voltage for maf?

what voltage is the pink wire for the maf supposed to be at? i am throwing a code for low maf voltage and just hooked a multimeter up to it and the voltage jumped around all over the place. Also i wanna see if the way i checked it was fine. i unconnected the connector from the maf and just tested it from the pin on the connector. was this allright way to do it?

The pink wire should be a steady 12v with the key on.

I think if you check your code, you may find it is for low MAF "frequency"... not low MAF voltage. Frequency is the output signal, with low frequency corresponding to low flow. I don't think there is a code for low "voltage" but I could be wrong.

The pink wire has been a problem in many of the 97's, for some reason. It appears to break somewhere between the fuse and the sensor.

ok the code is
po100 : Mass Air Flow (MAF) insufficient signal activity

So i guess I dont know what that means.

Also when I tested my pink wire it was 13.7 volts,i did have the car running if that matters.

Re: what voltage for maf?

I recently started throwing the po100 code, thought I would bring this thread back to life. Anyway, I checked the pink wire with the car off, and it reads 11.7 which is about right, considering my battery is a bit weak, and the elec. water pump is on with the ing. switch in the 'on' position. But the ground does not appear to be good, if thats even a ground? So thats my question, is the black wire supposed to be a ground? And the yellow should get 5v?

Re: what voltage for maf?

The black/white wire is indeed a ground. Both power and ground must be good for it to work.

ok sweet thnx, I'll check it out, is there a known value for the yellow wire? around 5v is what ppl seem to be getting in other threads, but do we know what its actually supposed to be?

What's po100? I have a Code 48, is that anything similar? "MAF System Fail" ?

All the information on PCM pinout/wire voltages is available on Shoebox's Tech Pages. You can look it up there.

P0100 is the OBD-II code for insufficient MAF sensor activity. DTC 48 is the OBD-I code for "MAF sensor circuit"..... there are differences between the OBD-I and OBD-II diagnostic parameters for those codes, but both could represent an MAF failure, or a failure of the wiring to the MAF.

Re: what voltage for maf?

Oh...yeah that's right, I'm a '97 with OBD-I.

I'll look at those to links thanks. I'll see if I'm at least getting juice and ground where I'm supposed to be.

Work fine for me.... 1995 PCM pinouts, and 1995 wiring diagrams.

If they won't work for you, click the "schematics" link in Shoebox's signature.
