What to use to take melted plastic off coated headers???

The second time i started my car up, i didnt realize it but one of the plastic wire covers was laying on the headers and melted to the coating. Is there anything i can use that will take the melted plastic off without sacrificing the coating. The are jet hot lt's and you cant help but see the plastic when you look at the headers. Its really pissing me off because these headers look nice in the engine bay. ANY suggestions are strongly encouraged (im desperate).

Wouldn't it eventually just burn off if you were to leave it?

Two possibilities: try ACETONE and see if that will melt the plastic so that you can clean the plastic off. Second try: lacquer thinner. I wouldn't try any abrasive ideas until you have exhausted all chemical possibilities.

Maybe i should just call up jet hot and see what they recommend using. That would probably be my best bet huh.

Oh, 800 grit or higher. Something that will remove the plastic. Shouldnt hurt the hard ceramic, you shouldnt need to bear down on it.

Cool Re: What to use to take melted plastic off coated headers???

use a hair dryer or heat gun and one of those harded resin putty knives from Lowes, Home Depot ...

Heat plastic up, then scrape it in circular motion to clump it, heat clump, pry off.

I think what he meant was that he had the same problem, and fixed it the way he described.

After I put in my headers, the plastic cover that goes over the steering shaft was touching and melted some plastic on the headers. I left it and popped the hood a couple of weeks later to clean it off and it had burned off already. So you could probably just leave it and let it do the work for you.

I wish I was guessing if that would work or not, but as stated above I've had the same problem. I melted one of the fuel rail covers on my vette.

Ditto to me yesterday. Just make sure you fold the rag over a couple times One of my convoluted tubings was laying on the header and I didn't realize. I just took my rag (had GOO GONE on it, dunno if that helped) but just wiped it right off while it was still hot.
