I use rubbing alcohol and q-tips. Just be very careful rubbing the filaments clean. Use hardly any pressure on them and feel for the q-tip snagging on the wire. It's all too easy to destroy a perfectly good MAF while cleaning it. Some people also use brake cleaner. Brakleen available at NAPA is good stuff. It doesn't eat away at plastic like other solvents. In any case, you don't want to get any solvent inside the assembly. Just spray the filaments down and you're good to go .

I prefer brake cleaner. That way nothing is touched. Don't get to close when you are spraying it either. The beauty is that it evaporates clean leaving nothing behind.

Electrical contact cleaner also works well.
