WHAT TYPE OF HEADERS FOR '95 CAMARO 383 Stroker?
I am wondering what type of headers will give the most HP and still pass smog? I have a '95 Camaro Z-28 that is going to have a freshly built 383 Stroker installed soon. I am wondering if it would be better to go short tube or long tube? If I go long tube, can I get a Y pipe that will fit to a catalytic converter? Also is there a long tube setup that has the EGR valves on them?
study up on smog regulations in your state. federal law prohibits relocating the cats, so long tubes by definition are illegal in most areas where smog/emission testing is done. if a concern, look for a set of used SLP shorties (1 3/4" dia.) and run your stock y-pipe with the cats in the factory locations. just my $0.02
FYI - I run JBA mids on my 383 with the JBA y-pipe and high flow cat. I live in Houston where they are extremely strict with emissions and I pass everytime with flying colors. Also, I have left the AIR fittings and EGR fittings hookedup to maintain emissions legal. The extra 5-10hp is not really worth the hasstle (when it comes to getting passed) for removing the cat or air/egr setup. Just my 2 cents.
For a few years, including running w/the times in my sig for the '95, I used SLP mid lengths, SLP y-pipe, and a random tech hi-flow cat all mated up to a flowmaster exhaust. The car passed smog in california, btw.
